Questions Clients Ask Before Starting

The same few concerns come up in almost every first conversation about a home garden. Here is what people actually want to know before they fill their first pot.

Most beginners do not start with a question about fertilizer ratios or seed depth. They start with something simpler: "Will this actually work on my balcony?" That is a fair question, and the honest answer depends on light, space, and how much time you can give each week.

The second most common question is about cost. People want to know whether growing their own chiles and spinach will save money or quietly become another hobby that eats the budget. The truth is that a few good pots, a bag of compost, and local seeds cost less than a single trip to the grocery store, but only if you start small and reuse containers.

Then comes the question of pests. Almost everyone asks whether they will need to spray chemicals. In most home gardens, the answer is no. Neem oil, a simple soap solution, and hand-picking caterpillars handle the usual problems. The key is checking leaves twice a week instead of waiting for damage to spread.

People also ask about the monsoon. They worry that heavy rain will rot their plants or wash away the soil. With proper drainage holes, a layer of gravel at the bottom of each pot, and a spot that is not directly exposed to the strongest downpour, most leafy greens and herbs actually thrive during the rainy months.

Finally, there is the question of time. A terrace garden does not demand hours every day. Twenty minutes in the morning for watering and a quick inspection, plus a longer session on the weekend for pruning and feeding, is enough to keep a small setup healthy. That rhythm fits most family schedules without turning gardening into a second job.
